Ash and blood

A Lenten scribbling I just rediscovered in the margins of my Mariology notes.

***

You're moths turned to soot
in the flame.

I reach through the fire
to seize and kiss your dusty hands,
my little chimney sweeps.

Blood and ash,
ash and blood.

My heart gapes open,
my veins are singing your name.

Draw near,
and let me
kiss the blood back into you.
